Our Spectacular September Continues
The first full 5-day week of school is in the books, and it was a great one! OMS and TJL opened their doors to families for Meet the Teacher nights, giving families the chance to connect with teachers and learn more about the exciting year ahead. This coming week, WDPS will do the same. Looking ahead, Homecoming is Saturday, September 26. The parade steps off at noon, with the game to follow at 1 pm. Come out to cheer on our students and show your Tornado pride!
A Student Voice at the Table
At the September Board of Education meeting, Ex-Officio Student Board Member Donovan Reyes-Thai gave his first report to the Board and community. To prepare for this report, Donovan visited all four schools and shared a detailed look at what he saw, what students and staff are working on, and some of the exciting things to look forward to around the district. Great job, Donovan!
A Warm Welcome Back at Harborfields PTA Breakfast
I joined all of our PTA units at their Welcome Back Breakfast at TJL last week. It was wonderful to see and chat with so many of our parents. Our PTAs do so much for our students and our schools. I encourage all staff and families to join the PTA if you haven’t done so already. They are always looking for volunteers to contribute to the many events and activities they run each year. All membership dues and funds raised go directly back to our students in the form of programs, grants, and scholarships. Congratulations to Sayla Fives on being named to Newsday's Top 50 Cross Country runners. She enters the season ranked fourth in the 5K at Sunken Meadow (19:01.3), Queensbury (18:27.8), and Bowdoin Park (19:07.3). She also boasts the best returning time in the 2.5 miles at Van Cortlandt in 14:55 flat.
Congratulations to Liv Rochlin and Michelle Yang on being named to Newsday’s Top 100 Volleyball players. Senior Liv Rochlin had 297 digs and 48 aces, and Sophomore Michelle Yang had 364 assists and 32 aces.
250th Semi-Quincentennial Passbooks - Due September 25th
This is a gentle reminder to all students and families who worked to get all of the stamps in the Town of Huntington for the 250th semi-quincentennial passbook that there’s still time. The passbooks are due to your principal by Friday, September 25th. All students who submit their completed book will be recognized by both our school board and the Huntington Town Board.
