Superintendent's Message

Congratulations to our TJL Lions of the Month, Rhys and Jesslyn! They earned recognition for demonstrating outstanding character traits of the Lion's Mane Mission.  Way to go!

Happy Mother’s Day!

On this special day, I extend my heartfelt wishes to all the moms in our community and on our staff. Your strength and unwavering support for your family make an incredible difference in the lives of children, and I hope you feel celebrated and appreciated today and always.

Harborfields Pride - Special Olympics Debut

May 2nd marked a historic day celebrating the first-ever Harborfields Special Olympics team! A huge congratulations to our athletes, Jack, Lily, Ben, Maddy, Jacob, and Daniel, who dedicated themselves at practices and truly gave it their all when it counted.

All of the athletes were supported by their incredible coaches, Ms. Basel, Ms. FitzMaurice, and Ms. Boody, along with so many members of the Harborfields community, including BOE members, administrators, teachers, TAs, student services staff, SEPTA, students, friends, and family, truly exemplifying our #OneHFamily. We look forward to cheering on future HF athletes in many Special Olympics Games to come!

Food Pantry - Together We Can Make a Difference

We are proud to announce the opening of the Harborfields High School District Pantry, an initiative designed to support students and families within our school community who may benefit from additional resources. This effort reflects the compassion and generosity that define Harborfields and our commitment to caring for one another as One Harborfields Family. Throughout the remainder of the school year, we will be collecting commonly needed, non-perishable food items in donation boxes located in the lobby of each school building. Requested items include cereal, peanut butter and jelly, soup, canned vegetables and fruit, rice, beans, snacks, and canned tuna. We encourage families who are able to consider making a donation to help support students and families in need within our community. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Thank you!

HF Night with the Ducks

More than 700 students, parents, and community members came out to support Harborfields Night with the Ducks, and our students stole the show before the first pitch! The performing groups, which included: HHS Marching Band, Kickline, Vocal Ensemble, and OMS 7th/8th Grade Band and Chorus, filled the field with Harborfields talent, spirit, and pride. Special thanks to Mrs. Scilla, Mr. Bilawsky, Mrs. Lowenhar, Ms. Kassinger, Ms. Sullivan, and Ms. Best for stepping up to the plate and helping make the night a success.

OMS Hackathon
Members of the OMS Creative Computing club competed in a fast-paced Hackathon competition developed by kidOYO at Happague Middle School. The “Harborfields Hackers” competed against students from 14 Long Island school districts and tied for third place, their best finish since they began competing!

The format of play was inspired by the game Risk, and the students relied on teamwork and problem-solving to tackle the complex challenges. Congratulations to all the participants and Mr. Logan for his guidance and support!

Project Excel Winners

Last week, three Harborfields students were recognized at the Huntington Youth Writes awards ceremony for their winning submissions!

  • Sophie Adwar, 1st & 2nd place in 9-12th grade essay & short story

  • Mirabelle Hollweg, 3rd place 9-12th grade short story

  • Scarlett Holloway, 2nd place 6-8th grade poetry

The contest celebrates young voices through poetry, short fiction, and essay writing. Their entries will be published in the town's annual journal. Congratulations on this wonderful accomplishment!

250th Anniversary Student Videos, courtesy of the Tornado News Team

Mr. Ambrosio and the Tornado News Team created informative videos that are being shared in each building about the 15 historical sites in the Town of Huntington. Check out last week’s videos below:

May 4 - The Arsenal, Huntington Militia

May 5 - Cold Spring Harbor Library

May 6 - Old Methodist Church & Exhibition Gallery

May 7 - Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum

May 8 - Suydam Homestead

Budget Vote & Board Election Reminder
The Budget Vote and Board Election is quickly approaching. The district’s
Budget Newsletter has been posted to our website and was delivered to all homes last week. Our website also includes the 26-27 School Budget Tax Calculator and all previous budget presentations. Additional budget and voter information can be found on the district website, https://www.harborfieldscsd.net/budget.

I encourage all residents to participate in the upcoming budget and board election events, including:

  • May 12 - BOE Regular Meeting and Budget Hearing @ OMS, 7:45 PM

  • May 19 - Annual District School Budget Vote and Board Election @ OMS, 2 - 9 PM

Here are some of my favorite moments from this past week:

Harborfields High School

The high school is keeping the fun going as part of its celebration of America’s semiquincentennial — this time with a “Find Uncle Sam” challenge. Three winners who spotted Uncle Sam hidden throughout the high school received a pair of tickets to a Long Island Ducks game, generously donated by the team.

Oldfield Middle School

Congratulations to the music groups who had amazing performances at the spring concerts! All of the groups sounded incredible, which is a testament to the hard work of our staff and students. What a great two nights of music!

Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School

Fifth-grade classes teamed up with fourth-grade classes for a special leadership and empathy activity, exploring the idea of our “Invisible Backpack.” Through meaningful conversations and activities, students reflected on how kindness, words, and actions can impact others in ways we may not always see. We are so proud of our 5th-grade leaders for helping us continue to build a culture of belonging at TJL!

Washington Drive Primary School

Career Week fun in Mrs. Postorino’s class! From learning about different professions from our school community to interviewing for the jobs they applied for, they experienced the full journey. Now the big question… who’s looking to hire some hardworking students?
