Superintendent's Message

Students in all schools had the chance to submit their work for recognition in this year's PTA reflections program.  We had many students who earned recognition and are even advancing to the State level competition.  Pictured here are our WDPS winners.  Congratulations to all of our students, and a huge thank you to our PTA volunteers for giving our students this amazing opportunity to show their tremendous talents!

An Incredible Evening - Black History Month Celebration

This year's Black History Month celebration, “34 Years of Black Commemoration,” inspired and uplifted through talented student performances representing all four school buildings.  I was so proud that the high school auditorium was at near capacity as we came together for an evening filled with celebration.

We were also proud to honor retiring OMS teacher and keynote speaker for the evening, Mr. Jeff Shade, for his 32 years of dedicated service and commitment to the Black History Celebration Committee and to the Harborfields community. Tribute speakers shared heartfelt reflections on his lasting impact, and Mr. Shade’s keynote speech highlighted the importance of history, legacy, and opportunity.

It was truly a meaningful night that would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of the Black History Celebration committee. Thank you for making this night truly remarkable!

National School Counseling Week

Last week was National School Counselors Week, a time to acknowledge the incredible work of school counselors. Please join me in recognizing the dedicated school counselors who make a difference in the lives of our students every day: Ms. Best, Ms. Gaska, Ms Lucera, Ms. McGill, Ms. Ortiz-Lucin, Ms. Roemer, Ms. Fagan, and Ms. McCaffrey. We appreciate you!

Congratulations to Talia Steinberg, Isabella Secko, Julian Tchinnis, and Jayden Lee! Be sure to stop by the Babylon Old Town Hall between February 9 and March 4 to see their incredible pieces! Adding to the excitement, Julian Tchinnis was also selected for Long Island’s Best: Young Artists Exhibit at the Heckscher Museum. This prestigious exhibition will be on view from March 29 through May 3. Congratulations to all of our talented artists on these outstanding achievements!

A Day of Jazz

Last week, the HHS Jazz Band took part in the LI Regional Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Festival at the Tilles Center. The day included performances, workshops, an adjudication clinic with professional jazz musicians, and the chance to hear and cheer on other talented bands. Congratulations to Outstanding Soloists Kyleigh Connors and Marty Bernstein, and to Best Bass Section members Alec Gerde, Samantha Plosky, Franklin Rathbun, and Nora McCloskey!

The WDPS WOW winners for the month of January got a special treat...Mrs. McNally and Mrs. Neira took them to the outdoor classroom to play in the snow. What a fun experience! The children had a blast shopping at the "snow store" and playing on the homemade "snow slide!"
